| Customer Reviews: Great questions but answers lacking a bit June 26, 2009 Fred Goodwin (San Antonio, TX) Review: Dallas Cowboys Trivia Challenge
Sourcebooks, Inc. Dallas Cowboys Trivia Challenge: The Unofficial Test for Cowboys Fans ("200 of the toughest questions for the die-hard fan"). Nashville, IL: Sourcebooks, Inc. 2009 96p, paperback, list: 4.99, ISBN: 978-1-4022-2654-0
Wow, and here I thought I actually knew a little something about the Dallas Cowboys, especially the "old school" Cowboys of Tom Landry & Tex Schramm. Well, I got my copy of Dallas Cowboys Trivia Challenge in the mail today. It comprises 200 questions in the following eleven categories:
1. The Early Days (18 questions)
2. Tom Landry and His Era (29)
3. Jimmy Johnson and His Era (10)
4. The Triplets (8)
5. Playoffs and Super Bowls (30)
6. The Draft (17)
7. Coachspeak (7)
8. Texas Stadium (13)
9. Buckle Up Your Chin Strap (20)
10. The Lighter Side (15)
11. Stats and Other Numbers (32)
Out of 200 questions, I missed 43 (157 correct). According to the scoring guide, I barely made it into the Jimmy Johnson category:
* 1-50 correct: Dave Campo caliber
* 51-90 correct: Chan Gailey caliber
* 91-125 correct: Wade Phillips caliber
* 126-155 correct: Bill Parcells caliber
* 156-180 correct: Jimmy Johnson caliber
* 181-200 correct: Tom Landry caliber
The questions range from easy to stumper. The questions are all multiple-choice format, so you know the answer is there someplace. The "answers" are given in the back, but all that is given is the correct letter. In many cases, this doesn't fully answer the question.
For example, question #31 asks how many of Landry's assistants went on to become head coaches in the NFL. The choices range from 4 to 7. I won't give away the correct response, but if you missed it, all you know is that you guessed the wrong number, without knowing who those assistants actually were (for the record, I missed by one, so at least I know all the names I guessed were correct, I simply missed someone).
All in all, an interesting addition to the bookshelf of Cowboy trivia buffs, but the book could have been so much more useful if the answers were more detailed.
